Harvey Weinstein’s Insurance Companies Won’t Cover His Sexual Misconduct Lawsuits
Harvey Weinstein currently has 11 pending sexual misconduct lawsuits against him and his five insurance companies are refusing to cover any of them.
The insurance companies, including Chubb, filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court, claiming that the famous producer’s policy has an exclusion clause that doesn’t cover willful malicious acts and sexual misconduct.
“The underlying lawsuits arise out of a pattern of intentional, egregious sexual predatory behavior by Harvey Weinstein which included rape, flashing, groping, fondling, harassing, battering and other sexual assault, all for his own personal sexual gratification, which spanned at least the past 30 years,” the lawsuit states.
“His actions were ongoing and pervasive, and allegedly criminal, acts of premeditated, forcible, nonconsensual sexual and physical assault, physical threats and abuse in the context of Weinstein’s invitation to his victims to discuss potential acting or producing roles in the film industry. Mr. Weinstein’s acts were such that the consequences could and should have been foreseen by a reasonable person.” the lawsuit added.
Weinstein has had numerous sexual misconduct allegations against him over the past several months. Just this past week, a woman in the UK accused him of sexually abusing her in the mid 1990s. The allegation is being investigated by Scotland Yard’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offenses unit.
“Officers from the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command have received allegations of sexual assault from 10 victims under Operation Kaguyak,” UK police said in a statement. “On 8 February, an allegation was received that the man sexually assaulted a woman (Victim 10) in Westminster in the mid-1990s.”
In the UK alone, Weinstein is accused of 15 sexual assault allegations by 10 different women.
In the past several decades, more than 80 women claimed he sexually assaulted them, including Kate Beckinsale, Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan.
Weinstein denies any allegations of non-consensual sex, but has apologized about his behavior has made his colleagues feel.
“I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologise for it,” he said. “Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go.”
Weinstein has been forced out of his filmmaking company since all of his allegations and is currently being investigated by police.
