Jasmine Eiland filed a lawsuit against Opera Atlanta Monday, claiming she was sexually assaulted on their dance floor.
Eiland went to the nightclub on Jan. 19 for a concert by hip-hop artist August Alsina. She video recorded herself dancing at the club. In the video, she is later heard shouting for help as tears rolled down her face.
“Jasmine Eiland was sexually assaulted on the dance floor while no security intervened as she was clearly in and out of consciousness,” the lawsuit says.
Her alleged attacker, Dominique Williams, was arrested and charged with aggravated sodomy and taken to the Fulton County Jail on Jan. 29. He still remains in jail.
The lawsuit accused Opera Atlanta of failing to provide adequate safety and security last month.
“Something like that should not happen in a nightclub,” Eiland’s lawyer L. Chris Stewart said. “It’s really a situation where they chose to choose profit over protection.”
Eiland is no longer in Georgia, but is cooperating with investigators. During a recent press conference, her attorney said that she tried to take her own life a few days after the alleged assault and had to be hospitalized.
Eiland said that she hasn’t been able to work or interact with her kids or husband since the attack.
“I’ve been under a rock,” she said. “I’ve been beating myself up.”
The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and medical and legal expenses, in addition to compensatory and punitive damages.
