The parents of a girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her diving coach has filed a lawsuit against Portage High School for negligence.
According to the lawsuit, the school corporation didn’t do enough to protect the girl from Latwone London, who was charged in May with two counts of felony sexual misconduct with a minor and three counts of possession of child pornography.
The original charging documents for London say that a family member of the girl found an inappropriate text message from London on the girl’s phone and told the police about it.
The girl told her parents that she exchange racy photos with London for several months and deleted the messages because she didn’t want to get caught. She also said that she performed a sex act on London at a movie theater.
“Defendant also failed to have or enact any policies to ensure that younger staff members – including London – maintained appropriate relationships with teenage students,” the lawsuit alleges, adding that, “Defendant took retaliatory action against (the girl) as a result of the Plaintiff’s complaint to law enforcement.”
London has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and has his next hearing on March 13.
