The news bombards us with thousands of car accidents everyday. They are serious, frequent, and tragic. While some collisions result in minimal damage, others can be fatal. We too often become immune to the deeply serious issue of car accident fatalities because of how often they occur. Every time we choose to get behind the wheel, we accept that there is some risk on being on the road that nobody is immune to, including celebrities. In fact, when beloved celebrities die as a result of auto accidents, we are reminded of how grave collisions on the road can be.

There are countless celebrities that has passed as a result of a car accident. We have compiled the saddest celebrity car accidents of all time to see what they have in common. Take a look at the celebrities below.

Paul Walker (1973-2013)

Everyone remembers the tragic death of Fast and Furious star Paul Walker. Known for
his action films and charm, Walker died in November of 2013 when his friend sped out of control. The driver lost control of the car and crashed into a cement light pole, causing the vehicle to burst into flames. The two were deemed dead on the scene.

Princess Diana of Wales (1961-1997)

Princess Diana was the world’s cherished royal family member. A fashion icon invested
in bettering the world, Princess Diana — deemed “Dynasty Di” by her loved ones —
died in a car accident in August of 1997, at only 37 years old. Some believe the driver, in an attempt to avoid aggressive paparazzi, sped and lost control of the car. Other believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol when the vehicle sped out of control. Though there are conflicting theories about the cause of the accident, one thing is clear: the driver’s high speed resulted in her life cut short.

James Dean (1931-1955)

James Dean, America’s beloved star actor and youth icon, died tragically on a freeway in
California in September of 1955. It was no secret that Dean had a love for racing; in fact, records show he received a speeding ticket only hours before his horrific end. Dean is said to have crashed into another car at extremely high speed, and died immediately upon impact.

Ryan Dunn (1977-2011)

America’s hilarious stunt performer best known for Jackass, Ryan Dunn died in his own car in June of 2011 on a road in Pennsylvania. Dunn took to the road after a few too many drinks and sped, until he and his passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Both riders died at the scene.

Jackson Pollock (1912-1956)

Known for his breathtaking abstract masterpieces, Jackson Pollock was an artistic icon. In August of 1956, Pollock took the roads right by his home under the influence of alcohol. At a high speed, Pollock lost control of his vehicle, skid of the road, and crashed into a tree. He died on the scene, while his wife Lee Krasner was away in Europe.

What do they all have in common?

Though these celebrities are certainly not the only individuals who have died from an auto accident, they represent the most saddening celebrity deaths to hit the media. Walker, Princess Diana, Dean, Dunn, and Pollock all suffered tragic ends as a result of high speeds on the road. If anything is clear, it is that these young stars’ lives were cut short because of speeding, both under the influence and sober. They are reminders of the importance of following the speed limits, and taking extra caution when you get behind the wheel.
