The mother of a female sixth-grade student has filed a lawsuit against Newport Independent Schools in Kentucky, alleging that they didn’t protect her daughter from her teacher’s sexual advances.
According to the lawsuit, Stephen Loder, who resigned from Newport Independent Schools in September 2018, called the female student “beautiful” and “baby”, rubbed her buttocks and legs and rubbed his groin against her back.
The suit also claims Loder also demanded other female students in his class to give him hugs and put their faces near his groin.
The lawsuit states that the student is dealing with “extensive mental and physical pain and suffering and medical expenses.”
The mother’s lawyer, Michael Reilly, said that the school ignored repeated efforts by parents to address the issue.
Loder taught at the school for only two months. He resigned shortly after a parent reported his behavior to the school.
“Effectively (sic) immediately, I am resigning my position at Newport Schools,” Loder wrote in a resignation letter.
Loder hasn’t been criminally charged and declined through a relative to respond to the allegations.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a teacher has been accused of sexual misconduct. Many different school districts across the United States have been dealing with teachers and other school staff behaving criminally and inappropriately towards minor students.
A Los Angeles teen filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District, claiming she was sexually molested by her teacher, Hector Rodriguez, during the 2016 – 2017 school year. The lawsuit states that Rodriguez inappropriately touched the female student numerous times and exposed himself in front of her and other students in the classroom.
The suit argues that LAUSD administrators didn’t take the proper steps to protect the girl from Rodriguez’s actions.
